Man Nabbed With Fully Automatic Submachine Gun, Police Say

A 22-year-old local man was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon following an investigation into an earlier incident in which a submachine gun was seized.

According to the City of Poughkeepsie Police, on Thursday, July 10, members of the police department responded to 13 Duane St, for a dispute, and report of a person in possession of a gun, City of Poughkeepsie Police Sgt. Terrence Beam said.

A search warrant was later executed at the home where police found a fully automatic, Sten Mark II submachine gun, along with two loaded magazines and ammunition, Beam said.

On Wednesday, Aug. 7, in a joint operation with the U.S. Marshals Service, the ATF, the Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Recovery Unit, arrested Yves J. Vinson on a felony warrant charging him with criminal possession of a weapon.

Vinson was processed and later arraigned in city court, where he was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail, in lieu of $30,000 cash bail/ $60,000 bond, Beam said.
